DLaB Erasmus – Technology Outdoors MOOC English Students Reflection.

In January 2017, we were invited to join the Digital Learning across Boundaries (DLaB) project, which encourages teachers to use technology effectively within the classroom. As part of the project, we were selected to go to Norway to create a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course).

On Wednesday 19th April, we travelled to Norway and met some of the people from Belgium and Denmark, two of the countries who are also part of the project.

The following day we visited Østfold University College, meeting the Norwegian members too. At the university, we spoke about the project day on the 16th March and other events, sharing our experiences. In addition, we started to create the individual units for each topic within the MOOC.

On Friday, we visited a local primary school and learnt about the Norwegian teaching system and visited their Forest School by the sea, where we carried out an outdoor Digital Playdate. Afterwards, we went back to the university and completed more units for the MOOC, along with introduction videos in the university recording studios. In the evening, we then had the opportunity to go on a bird watching expedition with the other students from the different countries. We slept in shelters and then waited for the birds to arrive at 6am on the Saturday.

The afternoon of the Saturday was spent completing the MOOC back at the university and also discussing the topic for next year; STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics).

We had a lovely time and would like to thank the Lecturers and Teachers from Norway for welcoming us into their country. We are honoured to be a part of this fantastic opportunity.
